Jet Ski Accidents

Summer is the perfect time to kick back, relax, and cool down by participating in an array of water activities and sports. With so many waterways in the tri-state area, we are lucky to have access to boats and other water toys. While these are fun ways to spend a warm summer day, they also can prove unsafe if handled irresponsibly.
On June 25, a man driving a jet ski in the New York Harbor off the coast of Liberty State Island was critically injured when his jet ski collided with a boat. He was trying to cross in front of a small boat, police said. The man fell off of his jet ski and the boat passed over him, according to police. The driver of the jet ski, a 26-year-old male, was found unconscious when removed from the water. The man later died.
Adhering to water safety rules, wearing protective gear such as life jackets and helmets, as well as staying alert to what is going on in the water around you while driving a water craft are the keys to staying safe this summer on our local waterways.
Make sure you know how to drive a boat or jet ski before taking one out this summer, and remember that weekends are often very crowded on our narrow waterways so staying cautious, being patient and adhering to all traffic and safety rules and protocol is the way to ensure that your experience will be fun and not end traumatically.
